Let me preface this article by saying what I'm not an expert, however, I was having the same problem and I seem to have found a couple of viable solutions for Outlook and one for the Windows Mail app.
Apr 30, 2014 Setting up your Hostgator email to run through Mac Mail is very straight forward and a great small business solution. If you’d like to use the secure settings (recommended) just replace the fields given by Hostgator throughout the Mac Mail email setup process.
The first one is basically making a new Outlook profile with one of the Hostgator accounts and then adding the others to it, if any.
Steps for those of us who need everything explained:
- Open Outlook.
- File.
- Account Settings.
- Manage Profiles. (If prompted to allow this app to make changes to your device, click yes)
Once in Mail Setup:
- Show Profiles. This opens Mail in the General tab.
- Add.
- Enter profile name.
- OK
That should create a new profile. Then, while still on the original profile follow steps 1-5 above.
Go to the new profile and click Properties:

- Email accounts.
- New.
- Fill out email info.
- Manual setup or additional server types.
- POP or IMAP.
Once in POP or IMAP Account Settings.
- User Information: Name and email address.
- Server Information: IMAP and Incoming and Outgoing male servers found in your Hostgator Manual Settings for Mail Client Configuration.
- Logon Information: User Name (same email used in user information) and Password.
- Check Remember password.
- Check Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
- More Settings.
- Outgoing Server
- Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
- Check Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
- Advanced.
- Incoming server (IMAP) and Outgoing server (SMTP) as found in your Hostgator Manual Settings for Mail Client Configuration.
- Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL/TLS on both. When you choose this encryption type, make sure the Ports have remained as indicated by your Hostgator settings because mine changed for some reason.
- OK.
Once back in POP or IMAP Account Settings.
- Next. This should test the account successfully.
- Close.
- Finish.
- Close all windows.
- Once you see the General window from step 5 above, click OK.
The second solution is a bit odd, but it works well too because one can also check your Hostgator accounts by logging into Outlook.com. The only thing is each account will appear as a folder in your main Outlook (Hotmail, MSN, etc.) account.
To be fair, I’m not sure if this works because I have Office 365 Home or if it works for everyone, but give it a shot.
Go to Outlook.com and log in to your account.
- Settings.
- Connected accounts.
- Enter Display name, email account, and password.
- Check create a new folder where imported email, with subfolders will be stored.
- Manually configure account settings (POP, IMAP, Send Only Account)
- IMAP/SMTP connection settings.
- OK.
- Enter Display name, Email address, Username (same as email address), and password.
- Check create a new folder where imported email, with subfolders will be stored.
Server Information
- Incoming (IMAP) server and Incoming server port as found in your Hostgator Manual Settings for Mail Client Configuration.
- Authentication: NTLM (I chose this because I read it’s a bit safer, but I guess basic is fine as well).
- Encryption: SSL
- Check Send email using your provider’s server.
- Outgoing (SMTP) server and Outgoing server port as found in your Hostgator Manual Settings for Mail Client Configuration.
- OK.

The third solution is to use Windows 10 Mail app, but I’m not too keen on that interface so, I prefer the other 2.
Anyway, I’m sure there’s another way to do this, but I did it like this:
- Windows Settings.
- Home.
- Accounts.
- Email & app accounts.
- Add an account.
- Advanced setup.
- Internet email.
- Email address and User name are the same.
- Choose Account name and the name with which you want to send messages.
- Incoming server (IMAP) and Outgoing server (SMTP) as found in your Hostgator Manual Settings for Mail Client Configuration.
- Account type: IMAP4
- Keep checked: Outgoing server requires authentication, Use the same user name and password for sending email, Require SSL for incoming email, and Requires SSL for incoming email.
- Sign in.
- Done.
